Finding The Right Words

Most of the time I struggle to find the right words to express what I am trying to convey. Sometimes, however, you land on a phrase that you think hits just right. I had one the other day. The context was weighing the pursuit of opportunities before their time vs missing the opportunity by not acting early. In this particular case I think that acting too early carries a heavy penalty in that it would affect many rather than just me, but being late would affect just me. To that end I said,

"I trust myself to swim if I have to jump ship later more than I trust myself to captain the ship before I'm ready."

I'm okay with the braving the sea if I make that decision for myself only. Agree with the idea or not, I felt like the phrase hit just right. Sometimes you find the words by accident.
